504
Changes that let your child take part — when a disability substantially limits a major life activity. Teaching does not have to change.
What Edvokit drafts for you, what you send, and where a paid partner attorney takes over. For parents of neurodivergent kids, whether or not a 504 or an IEP is already in place.
A private diagnosis in a drawer does not make the school act. Edvokit starts from what you already know about your child — so the ask matches them.
Get the school looking at the right areas — autism, ADHD, and reading, writing, or math — not a guess that fits another kid.
A child profile with stacked packs: autism, ADHD, and specific learning disability for reading, writing, or math. Fairfax / Virginia only in the first version.
Pick the packs that fit. You can turn on more than one.
Deaf or blind services, nurse plans, speech-only, preschool Child Find, and adapted-curriculum lanes are not packs here. You get a plain pointer to PEATC (703-923-0010).
One sentence. The Fairfax form. The Virginia or Fairfax clock. Not a lecture on the whole special-education book.
Know what to ask this week so the school starts evaluating and considering a 504 or an IEP.
The next ask from your child’s packs: form id, clock label, and one clear sentence. Default: evaluate in all suspected areas, with autism named inside that request when it belongs there — not as the only ask.
Read it. Decide whether it matches what you have seen. Edit later when you download.
This is parent education, not legal advice. Edvokit does not predict whether you will “win.”
Changes that let your child take part — when a disability substantially limits a major life activity. Teaching does not have to change.
Teaching that changes — specialized instruction, related services, and goals under special education law. The heavier plan when how they teach has to change.
Ask for the right program name, a written plan if your child leaves the building, and goals that are not “tolerate that peer.”
Ask for a 504 or an IEP. If the school writes up behavior as discipline instead of help, know there is a short clock to push back in writing.
Dyslexia is a learning disability on the school form. A reading plan in general education is not the same as an IEP.
If your child panics under demands (sometimes called PDA), ask for support language — Virginia does not use that as an eligibility box.
One clear sentence. The real school form. The real clock. You send it. Edvokit does not email the school.
Put a written request in the school’s hands so they have to stop saying “wait and see.”
A school-ask letter you can edit — meeting request, evaluation request, prior-written-notice demand, or stay-put note when that applies.
Edit the draft. Check the not-a-law-firm box. Type your name. Download. Email or deliver it yourself. Keep a copy and the date they received it.
Nothing on this site contacts the school. A school ask does not require a partner attorney. You decide what goes out.
In Fairfax, that referral is often SS/SE-5. The 65-business-day clock starts when the school receives it — how that clock works. SS/SE-10A is the autism worksheet at eligibility, not the letter that starts the clock.
Bring what the school wrote. Bring your one ask. Bring what you want on the record before they decide.
Walk in ready so the meeting is about help — not another delay.
A meeting prep sheet from your school-ask draft plus the school’s words you type in. No calendar invite. No school scrape.
Paste what the school wrote. Print or save the sheet. Bring it. Decide what to say.
Edvokit does not attend the meeting and does not speak for you.
What the school wrote this week — not your paraphrase.
One sentence. The form. The clock.
What belongs on the record before they decide about your child.
What “wait and see” already delayed for your child.
Know when a draft is ready, a download unlocked, or a partner review changed — so you are not guessing.
In-app notices tied to your school-ask or filing draft and to attorney review status.
Read them in your account. Optional email to you only when a send domain exists.
Messaging means messages to the parent. No school transport. No co-parent chat.
Do not let a soft “wait and see” erase a written referral without a paper trail.
A prior-written-notice demand: the school must list options considered and rejected. A blank “none considered” is a defect.
Send the demand yourself if they refuse an evaluation, service, or placement after your written ask.
Edvokit does not file a complaint for you. Escalation to a state complaint or due process is the attorney lane below.
Access supports on a plan and a written safety / peer-harm log can both be true — your child should not lose months while adults argue over one word.
A disability-access school ask, and — if you choose that track — a peer-harm / safety notice log on Virginia’s 24-hour clock and Fairfax Reg 2601’s five school days. The product does not force the word “bullying.”
Pick the access track, the log track, or both. Send what you decide.
School-ask rules apply unless you choose a formal filing. Filings wait for a partner attorney.
Make the team show their work before a label that does not match autism, ADHD, or a learning disability.
An emotional-disability mislabel check — criteria gaps, whether autism / OHI / SLD forms fit first, and space for a parent dissenting statement. Not a pack that seeks that eligibility.
Bring the check to the meeting. Decide what you sign and what you dissent from.
“Emotional disability” is a label to question, not a destination. Edvokit does not generate “refuse ED” as legal advice.
1 · Before a plan
Sixth grader. No 504. No IEP.
Private autism evaluation on a shelf. School has not opened eligibility.
School said wait and see. That is the school delaying help — not a plan.
First ask: evaluate in all suspected areas, in writing — name autism inside it. Start a 504 or an IEP. You send it.
2 · After a hard week
A sixth grader. Private autism evaluation months old. Eligibility still closed. After a hard week:
“non-preferred peer interactions” and that he “left the building.”
Do not accept another wait-and-see meeting. Ask in writing for evaluation in all suspected areas — autism named inside that request. Put a written elopement plan and peer separation in the IEP as supports — not a compliance goal, and not a PDA eligibility label Virginia does not use.
Evaluate in all suspected areas — name autism. Put a written elopement plan and peer separation in the IEP as access supports.
You send the letter. Edvokit drafts it. Nothing files itself.
School asks get out after you sign. State complaints, OCR, due process, and private-placement reimbursement only download after a licensed partner reviews that version.
Filing drafts stay watermarked Not for filing — pending attorney review. The partner’s name, firm, and fee label show before you join the queue.
Acknowledge the fee. Wait for approved or declined. If approved, sign the disclaimer again for that version, then download. You file or serve — not this site.
Declined means no download. No skip-attorney path. Not a law firm. No fee split. Edvokit never files and never appears as counsel.
School letter: yours after the checkbox and typed name.
Filings stay watermarked until a paid partner attorney reviews them. Fee disclosed before the queue.
Not in the first version: deaf or blind services, medical nurse plans, speech-only, preschool developmental delay, or adapted curriculum for intellectual disability. Twice-exceptional later. Stay-put reminders for an unsigned annual IEP are in the product when that situation applies. How the school has to move — referral, the 65-day count, eligibility forms.
